Apex Strategic Ventures was born from the New Ventures Program and continues to implement it's South-East Asian operations today. Founded in 1999, New Ventures was an initiative of the World Resources Institute, an independent think-tank based in Washington DC, to prove a new concept: "Small and medium-sized businesses could make a profound difference to the health of the planet". Today, this concept is demonstrated daily around the world. As engines of economic growth and laboratories for environmental and social innovation, small and medium-sized enterprises are helping to build modern economies that improve people's lives while conserving natural resources.

The New Ventures Program accelerates environmental enterprises' growth by providing innovative entrepreneurs with management training, business advisory services, and access to capital and markets. Functioning as a development company and business accelerator, New Ventures shifts alternative environmental and social markets from the margin to the mainstream and has developed a set of tools to equip tomorrow's business leaders with the skills needed to succeed in these new markets.

Today, New Ventures has more than lived up to its name. The innovative model - helping entrepreneurs build solid business plans and skills, linking them with mentors, and showcasing them to investors. Companies New Ventures support have launched game changing products and business models, ranging from an Indian company that generates affordable rural electricity from rice husks, to an Indonesian company that is changing the renewable energy landscape through utility-scale solar PV farms, to a Chinese company that has created a vibrant national market for refurbished photocopiers, thereby reducing toxic electronic waste.
